19 - Discovering Salento Tour (Otranto & Lecce)
Otranto is Italys most eastern city, named by UNESCO “Sito messaggero di pace”. Visit to the Cathedral and to the famous Medieval Pantaleone mosaic (800mq of medieval culture). Visit of the Byzantine Church of San Pietro (a little Santa Sofia), and of the Aragonese castle. Departure to Lecce. Lunch in Agriturismo with a menu of typical products of Salento.
Lunch in Otranto is characterized by a menu that combines all the taste and flavours of typical Salento cuisine: rich dishes based on meat and vegetables freshly picked from the garden. We discover recipes renound from peasant wisdom and we will be amazed by the consistency of flavours. Each bite is a discovery, each dish a story ready to be told.
Also called “The Florence of south-Italy”, Lecce is the city of Baroque churches and old palaces located among small alleys surrounded by the three old entrance’s: Porta Rudiae, Porta San Biagio and Porta Napoli. Visit of the Cathedral of Santa Croce and the amazing Piazza Duomo, the castle of Charles V (from the exterior), the roman amphitheater and Piazza Sant’Oronzo, giving a suggestive view on the history of this city.
