Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019 and UNESCO heritage site, is one of the oldest city in the world whose territory contains evidence of rock settlements from the Paleolithic up to the present day. Matera is the city of Sassi, the original urban nucleus developed from the natural caves, carved into the rock and after modeled in increasingly complex structures, within two large natural amphitheatres that are the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano.
Visit to a cave-house, entirely and typically furnished to understand the habits and customs of the inhabitants from the ancient districts of the Sassi before their leaving and to a Rock Church.
At the end of the walking, visit to a bakery and tasting of the Matera bread, that has become an IGP product thanks to its historic and organoleptic qualities."Matera bread " is a fragrant and perfumed bread, with a cornetto form, symbol of the city of Matera. It's entirely realized with milled flour of durum wheat and natural yeast. Great to taste!
* Optional and exclusive is the visit of Matera in Calessino (a modern three-wheeled "carriage" eco-sustainable), the only vehicle enabled to access the ancient streets of the Sassi while comfortably seated and giving precious moments with maximum comfort.
