19 - Discovering Salento Tour (Otranto & Lecce)
Otranto is Italy’s most eastern city, which old town was named “Sito messaggero di pace”by UNESCO. Visit to the Cathedral and to the famous Medieval Pantaleone mosaic (800 sqm of medieval culture). Visit to the Byzantine Church of San Pietro (a little “Santa Sofia”), and of the Aragonese castle. Departure to Lecce. Lunch in Agriturismo with a typical menu of Salento products.
The lunch menu in Otranto combines all the tastes and flavours of typical Salento cuisine: rich dishes made with meat and vegetables freshly picked from the garden. We will discover recipes recovered from peasant wisdom and we will be amazed by the consistency of theirflavours. Each bite is a discovery, each dish a story ready to be told.
Also called “The Florence of Southern Italy”, Lecce is the city of Baroque churches and old palaces located among small alleys surrounded by the three old entrances: Porta Rudiae, Porta San Biagio and Porta Napoli. Visit to the Cathedral of Santa Croce and the amazing Piazza Duomo; you can admire the castle of Charles V (from the outside), the Roman amphitheater and Piazza Sant’Oronzo, which give a suggestive view on the history of this city.
