21 - Among CERAMICS and MAGNA GRECIA (Grottaglie & Taranto)
Located on a small hill, Grottaglie has its origins in the green and spectacular canyons; it is famous all over the world for its ceramics. Visit the peculiar old town, characterized by small alleys in the quartier of ceramics. Visit a ceramic workshop, where the artisan will explain how the ceramic process take place.
Leaving for Taranto. Here we’ll have a delicious aperitif in a historic restaurant with a characteristic view of the Mare Piccolo. Tasting of some typical terrines cooked with the products of the seafaring tradition including cuttlefish, octopus “alla Luciana” and the inevitable mussels au gratin accompanied by an excellent wine from Puglia.
Taranto is called "the city of the two seas", bathed by the Great Sea and the Little Sea. Visit the National Archaeological Museum of Magna Grecia where you can admire the famous "Ori di Taranto", continue to the old city, passing the revolving bridge inaugurated in 1887. Finally visit the Cathedral of San Cataldo and the historic center rich in noble architecture, Romanesque and baroque churches.
