DESCRIPTION
Otranto, known as “Porta d’Oriente” (“Door to the Orient”), has been the destination of many people: Japigi, Messapians, Dauni, Peuceti and Turks. These people have left their cultural footprint during their passage.
The southern coast of Otranto is wild and unspoiled: there are high cliffs of volcanic origin overlooking the sea and many bays with a rocky seabed and a rich flora and fauna. There are also many underwater caves and land caves that can be reached by boat.
The northern coast of Otranto is completely different. The rock is calcareous (it is known as “Lecce Stone” or “Leccisu” in the local dialect) and it is used in the construction of churches and houses.
The coast is full of sandy coves with a shallow seabed appearing like real paradises that you can reach only by boat. As a backdrop to these coves, there is the beautiful Mediterrean scrub with its centuries-old maritime pinewoods and many blueberry, laurel and rosemary plants.
During the experience, we wil ll stop many times for bathing in bays and small coves that can be reached only by boat. We will offer you an excellent appetizer on board based on typical products of Salento, artisan mozzarella and Primitivo Salentino wine. The tour includes visiting Otranto from the sea, Torre del serpente, Palombara, Punta faci’, Baia delle orte, Capo d’Otranto, Sant’Emiliano, Porto Badisco, Grotta delle rose, Grotta della fraula, Santa Cesarea Terme, Baia di Miggiano, Zinzulusa Cave, Blue Grotto, Palombara Cave and back.
Optional/On request: Lunch in Otranto is included. The proposed menu combines all the taste and flavors of typical Salento cuisine: rich dishes made with meat and vegetables freshly picked from the garden. We will discover recipes recovered from peasant wisdom and we will be amazed by the consistency of flavours. Each bite is a discovery, each dish a story ready to tell.
