DESCRIPTION

Monte Sant’Angelo is the richest center for art and history in Gargano. Visit to the San Michele Shrine, Unesco Heritage site, a precious evidence of Lombard art in Italy. In the historic center, in the Junno district, you walk among low houses and alleys, surrounded by the smell of stuffed “ostie”, typical sweets made with almonds and honey. The breath of history is still alive between the Norman castle, residence of Frederick II, and the Tomb of Rotari.
At the end of the visit, we will taste a typical sweet of the small town, the stuffed Ostie, composed of two oval, cream-white wafers. The filling consists of toasted almonds, caramelized with sugar and honey. The legend tells that this typical sweet was born by chance during the preparation of the sacred hosts, in a convent of nuns in Monte Sant’Angelo, the monastery of the Holy Trinity, of the Nuns of the St. Clare Order.

We will then appreciate the delicacies from Gargano, in an ancient farmhouse that had been abandoned for almost two hundred years. With its sixty-four hectares of hunting reserve, as well as the cows and horses, wild boars and many other animals, we will discover the essence and genuineness of products, relaxing in a timeless place. After lunch, it is possible to visit the estate in complete freedom.

Santa Maria di Siponto is located about 3 kilometers from Manfredonia and it is an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, with Islamic influence. The building consists of two overlapping churches; the upper church constitutes the present Basilica.
It stands on foundations from the Roman times. The facade has an Apulian gate, adorned with carvings and a jutting canopy, supported by two leonine columns. On each side, there are two arches on columns. The interior has a square plan; in the central space, there are four pillars, joined by pointed arches. Here, a lowered dome is set, terminated by a lantern with eight arches.
On the left of the church, the excavations unearthed remains of a paleochristian basilica, with three naves, a mosaic floor and a semicircular apse. The artist Edoardo Tresoldi realized a spectacular metallic installation. It is 14-meter high 3D reconstruction of the ancient basilica, exactly above its remains.
